International Students
We welcome students from overseas to study at Kobe Design University. International Students Enrollment (As of Apr. 2005) Underqraduate Studens:20 in total

Number of International Students:36 in total
Fees A limited number of scholarships for international students are available. Most scholarships are not enough to cover all tuition and expenses to study and live in Japan. Students can apply for scholarships provided from private foundations, Japanese government or local prefecture governments through university after enrolling the university. But you can apply for Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho:MEXT) scholarship before coming to Japan. Please contact Japanese Embassy in your country about details. Housing We don't have residence for students. But the international student house (owned by Kobe city) is located near the university. About one third of our international students are living there now. We can also arrange a "homestay"(staying at Japanese private home). And we offer information on private housing (apartment) for international students. We can act as international students' guarantor when you need it for making housing contract.(but we require you to prove your financially secure during your period of study in Japan) Part-Time Job By immigration law, international students can not work during their stay in Japan. But if you could obtain permission from the regional immigration office before starting part-time job, you can work 28 hours per week at maximum. Health Insurance You will receive a 70% discount of your medical costs by the National Health Insurance Program. And also international students will join the "Medical Fee Reimbursement for Foreign Students" by Japanese Government. The reimbursement fee corresponds to 80% of the medical fees incurred for those with National Health Insurance. If you combine the National Health Insurance with this reimbursement program, you will only have to pay 6% of the medical fees incurred. Tutoring We expect all applicants to understand Japanese because all our lectures are offered in Japanese. We have Japanese language class for international students, but these are for intermediate level and high level students. To help starting your college life, we introduce Japanese student as a tutor for each international student. Tutor students are full-time undergraduate or graduate students. Other Services International Student Supporting Association that is managed by donations offer a student a loau service in the case of emergency. Office of International Exchange held an information meeting once a month to give students a useful information. Each student can have their own mailbox at Office of International Exchange.
